Book 5: Another Way
Episode 12
© by William Arthur HolmesDobie left his audience in the conference room. His first stop in his search for Kaylie was the diner. An older man and woman – presumably, the owners – were working the day shifts of Blount’s and Kaylie’s respective jobs.
They seemed genuinely shocked and saddened to hear what happened to Kaylie. Not surprised at all to hear that Blount was involved. When Dobie asked if they had any idea where they might have taken her, the man suggested Blount’s place. “Him and JD hang out there a lot...”
“... partying with whores from the truck stop,” the wife finished his sentence.
“Where does he live?”
“I’ll text you his address.”
“I don’t have a phone.”
She gave him the usual surprised look.
“I know,” he managed a smile. “Who doesn’t have a cell phone these days? Long story. Wait, I’ve got Kaylie’s. She left it behind.”
The woman texted the address to Kaylie’s phone. Dobie memorized it before it disappeared from the screen. On his way out the door, the wife said, “We hope you find her.”
The husband spit on the ground and said, “Do whatever you want with Blount. Need to borrow one of my guns?”
