Book 5: Another Way
Episode 15
© by William Arthur HolmesKaylie would have preferred driving silently into the night, but Dobie kept talking.
“So, what about JD?” he asked. “I mean, I guess Watson killed him, but for my own peace of mind, I’d like some confirmation.”
“I don’t know,” she opened her eyes. “I passed out, and when I came to all I saw was Watson, um, massaging my feet.”
“What?”
“Yeah, and he was, like, getting into it,” she scoffed, “until he saw me watching.”
Dobie raised an eyebrow. “What about JD? Was he dead or not?”
“I never saw him again. When Watson helped me up, all I saw was Blount’s body. JD would be pretty hard to miss.”

Several hours later, cruising down the Interstate just outside of Tulsa, Dobie saw what looked like Watson’s Escalade in his rearview mirror. It was dark out, but the highway was well-lit at each off-ramp. When he looked again, the car was gone. He mentioned it to Kaylie mostly as an excuse to say something. He needed help staying awake and they hadn’t gotten far enough away from Taylorville yet.
“I think Watson is following us.”
